Overview
This is a 50s opening sequence for 2025 Kinetik Student Showcase opening sequence.
CONCEPT
DEVELOPMENT
KINETIK is a creative playground that visualizes how motion design students think and experiment. The icons are inspired by everyday elements tied to motion design, such as punctuation marks, pencils, and animation parabolas, and brought to life through motion, each transformation reflecting exploration and discovery. The animation progresses through three stages: Research Mode, Play Mode, and Show Mode. In the final stage, twelve unique 3D icons merge into the word ‘KINETIK,’ symbolizing the collective creativity and vibrant energy of motion students.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As Creative Director, my primary responsibilities included concept development, storyboarding, completing three independent shots and one collaborative shot, and providing animation feedback to each team member to ensure smooth animation and transitions. Below are the four shots I mainly worked on: Shot 10 was completed in collaboration with Jennifer Wee, while the remaining shots were created independently by me.

LOGO DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
During the logo development process, Luna and I first brainstormed around the summarized keywords and aimed to design about ten different icons. Some of these icons were more concrete, such as a “blue fork” made from punctuation marks, a “light blue sheet” of sketch paper, and a green pencil tip with mirrored symmetry. Later, we explored more abstract icon designs, such as an orange fruit sliced open and a pink connector capable of linking with other elements, each representing design languages we often use in motion work. Through this process, we went through 3–4 rounds of iteration and ultimately created 12 final 3D icon models.

LOGO DESIGN
FINAL VISUAL
In addition to animation, I collaborated with Luna Liu ( Design Lead for the title card ), to create twelve 3D icons, while Valentina designed the textures for all the icons. Centered around the theme of a ‘creative playground,’ our icon designs were guided by keywords such as ‘Search,’ ‘Iteration,’ and ‘Grow,’ reflecting the diverse methods motion students use to gather inspiration during the creative process.

Opening Sequence
Design Development
I collaborated with the other directors to develop the storyboard and task sheet, and during meetings we assigned individual shots to each team member. Afterward, we organized a weekly Saturday workshop where everyone gathered at school to share progress, refine ideas, and make adjustments to the animations.
